Facing weeks without a paycheck and only three hundred dollars in my savings account, I found myself less than a month away from retirement. The pension papers I was filling out continued to remind me that my first paycheck wouldn't come for two months. "Ouch!" How far could I stretch three hundred dollars? There are bills around every corner.
At work the following week, I learned that a coworker who had financial problems was in the hospital. I wrote a check for a hundred dollars and sent it to her. " O well!"
I would see what the Lord would do with the two hundred dollars that I had left.

On Sunday our church bulletin reminded us of the end of the year missionaries' gift. My first thought was, Lord, I have no money! Then I felt the familiar tug from the Lord to give the remaining two-hundred dollars. In my mind I said to myself, "God I know you will take care of me."
Yes indeed, my precious Lord abundantly provided for me. Four days later, our technical department gave me a twenty-five dollar gift certificate to Safeway. That was great! I could really use that! The following day, I received a twenty-dollar gift certificate to a local restaurant and a prayer partner gave me a fifty-dollar gift certificate to Fred Meyer. Monday brought more blessings. In two cards I received two hundred dollars in cash. Retirement was looking good! Wednesday at the post office, I received two more cards. One was a Christmas card containing wonderful letter and a gift certificate for two hundred dollars to Fred Meyers. The other one was a retirement card from my twin brother and enclosed was three hundred dollars. As I walked back to my car I was crying and praising God all at the same time. How exciting and how humbling to have the Creator of the Universe taking note of me by giving back a flood of blessings after I had blessed others. The following day at lunch I received two more gift certificates. One was a fifty-dollar certificate to J.C. Penneys. Within eleven days I had received eight hundred eighty dollars. Two weeks after my last day of work, loved ones at the church gave me a small party with a money tree that held one hundred fifty dollars and a relative paid back a sixty-dollar loan. This money would pay my bills until my pension and social security began to arrive.
The dispersal of my first pension check was supposed to take ninety days. But forty-five days after I turned my paperwork in, I received my first check. In addition to this, social security sent me a letter saying they had made a mistake and I would receive twenty dollars a month more that they had originally calculated. It is exciting to see the hand of God at work!
God keeps His promises when we walk in obedience. Sometimes the transitions in life seem impossible but when we trust the Lord all things are possible. Many people have heard my testimony but with gladness I shall share it again with all who will listen. Truly our Lord is our provider (Jehovah Jireh) and keeps His promises!
